Peter Pan Primary School, Berlin

Outdoor activity – In the new school playground at Peter Pan Primary School in Berlin, GODELMANN’s GDM.BOLERO stone multi-stone system creates a vibrant paving pattern that harmonises with the landscaped outdoor space. The organically shaped concrete blocks echo the curved design of the paths, planting areas and play areas.

The rounded design of GDM.BOLERO stone is ideal for curved paths and varied open spaces. Coordinated sizes and natural colours open up a wide range of design possibilities for outdoor paving. The random-lay pattern creates a dynamic overall effect that can be combined with both modern and historic architecture.

Flowing lines and an inspiring spatial experience – organically shaped stone surfaces interspersed with green joints: Using the GDM.BOLERO small paving system, a school playground featuring a variety of planting and recreational areas has been created in the open space at Peter Pan Primary School in Marzahn-Hellersdorf. As part of Berlin’s school construction programme, the primary school has been provided with a modular extension and a standard sports hall on a new plot of land. Trees, shrubs and lawns complement the paved areas.

The design of the spacious outdoor area is by BACHER Landscape Architects from Berlin. The organically shaped GDM.BOLERO stone pavers have been laid in a varied pattern. Together with the rounded flowerbeds and the benches running alongside them, they divide the school playground into areas for physical activity, socialising and relaxation.

“We used the GDM.BOLERO paving system across a large part of the school playground,” explains landscape architect Siegfried Bacher. “Thanks to its simple laying method, good drainage properties and the deliberately organically designed planting and play areas, the paving stone blends harmoniously into the overall appearance of the school playground.” According to Bacher, the GDM.BOLERO stone provides “variety in the paving pattern” and, through the resulting joints, also creates a functional solution for drainage during rainfall. “Its high durability and low maintenance requirements make the concrete paving stone particularly suitable for high-traffic areas such as school playgrounds.”

Design with a drainage function – The irregularly shaped paving stones allow for varied lines. At the same time, the widened joints provide space for rainwater to infiltrate. The GDM.BOLERO small paving system is specified to have a permeable area of approximately 17 per cent.

GDM.BOLERO stone is certified to the Cradle to Cradle Certified® product standard at Silver level.
